King of Prussia, PA – An outstanding pianist himself, Carter Pann has created The Piano's 12 Sides (410-41341 - Score - $24.99), an hour-long collection of 12 movements, each developing a color or character. The work�s magnificence exudes both from its dazzle of each "side" of the piano and from its monumental structure where each movement stands out yet all 12 build to an integrated whole.

Written for pianist Joel Hastings, each of the 12 movements is dedicated to a pianist friend of Mr. Pann’s. The score includes descriptive notes from the composer, painting images from traditional Irish tunes with a gospel choir, to promenading zombie socialites, to a chorale that brings Mr. Pann almost to tears. Mr. Hastings has recorded The Piano’s 12 Sides on the Naxos label.

Carter Pann is a versatile composer whose music has been performed around the world by ensembles and soloists including the London Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Budapest Symphony, Irish National Symphony, New York and Chicago Youth Symphonies, the Radio Symphonies of Berlin, Stockholm, and Finland, and the National Repertory Orchestra, among others. Honors include the K. Serocki Competition for his Piano Concerto, a Charles Ives Scholarship from the Academy of Arts and Letters, and five ASCAP awards. In 2000 his Piano Concerto was nominated for a Grammy Award. Mr. Pann is currently on faculty at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
