Tenuto Publications Releases Two New Scores
King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company announces the release of two new scores from Tenuto Publications by Anthony Iannaccone, the first and second parts of his Recollections series of orchestral works.
West End ExpressThe first, West End Express (496-00078 - study score - $25.00), is fast and dazzling. "The composer made marvelous use of scoring that replicated the driving energy of the mechanical behemoth. Wheels clicking the rails juxtaposed with panoramic visual allusions of open spaces as well as dark, smothering tunnels. A sense of zipping along prevailed in Iannaccone's effective instrumental colorings. ...virile, hypnotic syncopation fused with brilliant brass." (Kalamazoo Gazette) See sample pages of the score as PDF here.
Waiting for SunriseThe second, Waiting for Sunrise on the Sound (496-00077 - study score - $35.00), represents recurring dreams of a youth spent on Long Island Sound and sometimes dangerous boating expeditions. When the sea and skies seemed about to doom the crew, the clouds would part and the waves would subside. In this orchestral and tonal setting, Iannaccone makes a concious effort to bridge the large ambience of the orchestral hall with a more intimate sound. Waiting for Sunrise on the Sound was selected as one of five semi-finalists in the 2001 Masterprize competition, and is recorded on the Albany label (TROY 486). See sample pages of the score as PDF here.
Anthony Iannaccone studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music. His principal teachers were Vittorio Giannini, Aaron Copland, and David Diamond. During the 1960's, he supported himself as a part-time teacher (Manhattan School of Music) and orchestral violinist. His catalogue of approximately 50 published works includes three symphonies, smaller works for orchestra, several large works for chorus and orchestra, numerous chamber pieces, large works for wind ensemble, and several extended a cappella choral compositions. His music is performed by major orchestras and professional chamber ensembles in the US and abroad. He is an active conductor of both new music and standard orchestral repertory. Since 1971, he has taught at Eastern Michigan University, where he conducts the Collegium Musicum in orchestral and choral music of the late 18th century.
