King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company has now released an exciting new work by Daniel Dorff for flute orchestra, Fireworks (114-41770 � Score and Parts � $29.99). Commissioned by the Flute Society of Washington (DC) for its 50th anniversary celebration, Dorff created an explosive work for flute ensemble, evocative of the experience of fireworks. Rapid ascents, some with a "pop" at the top, dissolve into cascading downward sprinkles. Although scored for two piccolos, four C flutes, two altos, two basses, and a contrabass, Fireworks was programmed to be performed by all interested flutists in attendance at the 2016 MidAtlantic Flute Fair as the Festival Flute Choir piece.

Daniel Dorff was born in New Rochelle, NY; acclaim came early with First Prize in the Aspen Music Festival�s annual composers� competition at age 18 for his Fantasy, Scherzo and Nocturne for saxophone quartet. Dorff received degrees in composition from Cornell and University of Pennsylvania; teachers included George Crumb, George Rochberg, Karel Husa, Henry Brant, Ralph Shapey, Elie Siegmeister, and Richard Wernick. He studied saxophone with Sigurd Rascher. In 1996, Dorff was named Composer-In-Residence for Symphony in C (formerly Haddonfield Symphony), in which he played bass clarinet from 1980 through 2002. Dorff�s works have been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, and Eastman Wind Ensemble, and many others.
