James Matheson Violin Concerto Now Published in Piano Reduction
Matheson Violin Concerto

King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company has now published the piano reduction of James Matheson's Violin Concerto (114-41585 Score and Part $24.99). A co-commission of the Chicago Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Concerto was premiered in the 2011-12 season by violinist Baird Dodge with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Chicago Symphony, followed by violinist Martin Chalifour with Pablo Heras-Casado and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The premiere recording has just been released on Yarlung Records in various formats (CD, vinyl, digital downloads) on an all-Matheson album, which includes his String Quartet and vocal cycle Times Alone.

Matheson cites inspiration from Bach’s writing for violin, from the grand tradition of the concerto repertoire, and from the enticing modern ironies of M.C. Escher, all combined with Matheson’s imagination for the sensibly unpredictable. A YouTube essay is available in which Matheson describes his Violin Concerto.

The Violin Concerto is available now through Theodore Presser Company or your favorite music retailer.
