Daniel Dorff Concerto for Contrabassoon in Piano Reduction
Dorff Concerto for Contrabassoon

King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company is pleased to present Daniel Dorff's Concerto for Contrabassoon (114-41819 Score and Part $16.99) in a piano reduction. Contrabassoonist Norman Spielberg commissioned Dorff to create this concerto, knowing the composer is a bass clarinetist who celebrates extended-range instruments with the lyrical charm and supple technical facility of a hands-on woodwind performer. The 14-minute concerto is scored for contrabassoon with clarinet, horn, and strings, and a study score is published (416-41605 Score $28.99). The concerto is also published in a "Quartet Version" for contrabassoon, clarinet, horn, and piano (114-41818 Score and Parts $36.99), with the piano playing a reduction of the strings. We are pleased to now publish the Concerto with stand-alone piano reduction for practice or performance. This warmly-received concerto has been performed in all three scorings at annual IDRS conventions.

Daniel Dorff's Concerto for Contrabassoon is available now through Theodore Presser Company or your favorite music retailer.

Daniel Dorff was born in New Rochelle, NY. Acclaim came early with First Prize in the Aspen Music Festivals annual composers competition at age 18 for his Fantasy, Scherzo and Nocturne for saxophone quartet. Dorff received degrees in composition from Cornell and University of Pennsylvania; teachers included George Crumb, George Rochberg, Karel Husa, Henry Brant, Ralph Shapey, Elie Siegmeister, and Richard Wernick. He studied saxophone with Sigurd Rascher. In 1996, Dorff was named Composer-In-Residence for Symphony in C (formerly Haddonfield Symphony), in which he played bass clarinet from 1980 through 2002. Dorffs works have been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, and Eastman Wind Ensemble, and many others.
