King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company announces the publication of David Leisner's Away (A Fantasy on "Shenandoah") for flute and guitar (144-40624 � Set of Performance Scores � $19.99).
In musical and rhythmic imagery, Leisner takes the familiar folk tune Shenandoah on a trip down a virtual river. He teases with snippets in the calm waters at the start, explores other bits as the waters gain in turbulence and speed. Through the rapids and over a waterfall, echoes of Shenandoah are a constant feature of the intricate duo, finally coming to rest in the still waters at river's end. The eleven-minute journey will be a mesmerizing program piece for accomplished flute and guitar duos. Away was commissioned by The Diller-Quaile School of Music for ensemble-in-residence Arc Duo (Heather Holden, Bradley Colten).
