Two New Works for Trombone by Lauren Bernofsky

King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company announces the publication of two pieces for trombone and piano by composer Lauren Bernofsky.

The Devil's DermishA 1994 concert work written for trombonist Brian Diehl, The Devil's Dermish (144-40690 Score and Part $19.99) is a virtuosic display, featuring quick, tongued notes in the lower range of the instrument, and a “limping” waltz in 5/8 time, more scalar and legato, in the higher ranges. The writing allows for expressive use of tone color and vibrato. The cadenza-like section employs techniques such as harmonic glissandi in one slide position, and multiphonics (singing one note while playing another).

Two Latin DancesA more recent work, Two Latin Dances (144-40688 Score and Part $18.99) is a beautifully evocative and sizzling work based on Bossa Nova and Tango rhythms. While at first sounding as two distinct movements, the characteristic dances gradually intertwine to create a uniquely integrated and ever-building whole. Natalie Mannix commissioned the work and introduced Two Latin Dances at the 2016 International Trombone Festival and has recorded the work on her CD Breaking Ground: A Celebration of Women Composers (MSR Classics).

The Devil's Dermish and Two Latin Dances are available now through Theodore Presser Company or your favorite music retailer.

Lauren Bernofsky (b. 1967, Rochester, MN) has written over a hundred works, including solo, chamber, and choral music, as well as larger-scale works for orchestra, film, musical, opera, and ballet., with performances all over the world.
