NEWS FROM CARL FISCHER MUSIC
For Immediate Release October 4, 2016
Bel Canto - Vocalises for Bass Trombone (Tuba)
Bel Canto

New York, NY – Carl Fischer Music releases Alan Raphs edition of Bel Canto - Vocalises for Bass Trombone (Tuba) (WF203 Score $14.99). These 27 vocalises are masterfully compiled, transcribed, and edited by trombonist Alan Raph and include selected etudes from Giuseppe Concone, Gaetano Nava, Giovanni Lamperti, and Mr. Raph himself. They can be used as etudes in the practice room to focus on legato phrasing, dynamics, and bass trombone/tuba register, or can be performed with piano as works highlighting the musician's phrasing and interpretation. The separate piano part is available as a download through the Carl Fischer Music website.

The etudes of Concone, Lamperti, and Nava have been widely used by vocalists to attend to legato singing, breath control, endurance, and lyrical phrasing. Instrumentalists have benefited from an etude book with one of these composers, but now bass trombonists and tubists can have all three composers masterfully compiled and edited in one book.

Bel Canto - Vocalises for Bass Trombone (Tuba) is available now through Carl Fischer Music or your favorite music retailer.

Alan Raph has maintained a wide scope of musical activities which include articles (published in The Instrumentalist, MENC Journal, National Student Musician), clinics and solos, instrumental methods and musical compositions (published by Carl Fischer Music, Theodore Presser Company, Kendor, and Alfred) and teaching (Teachers College, Columbia University, New York University, Queens College). His trombone playing background includes charter membership in the American Symphony Orchestra (Stokowski), the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band, the Chamber Brass Players, and long-term associations with the NBC TV Opera, the American Opera Society, the Little Orchestra Society, the Symphony of the Air, and the Philip Glass ensemble. His YouTube videos (Trombone Tips, etc.) have accumulated over half a million hits. He is presently music director of the Danbury Brass Band. For more information visit his website
