Telemanns Fantasies for the Double Bass
Telemann Fantasies

New York, NY – Carl Fischer Music announces the release of Fantasies for the Double Bass (BF123 Score $11.99) composed by Georg Philipp Telemann and transcribed and edited by Nicholas Recuber.

Nicholas Recubers transcription of Georg Philipp Telemanns Fantasies for Double Bass promises to bridge the gap between the famous double bass sonatas by Marcello and Telemann and the cello suites of J.S. Bach. With this edition, modern bassists can enjoy a beautiful new addition to the instruments repertoire with plenty of room for interpretation. Inspired by Nobuko Imais recorded performance, Recuber left passages that can be played in multiple positions or strings unmarked, with his interpretations noted only where he felt strongly about tone or color.

Fantasies for the Double Bass is available now through Carl Fischer Music, or your favorite music retailer.

Nicholas Recuber is the Assistant Principal Bassist in the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and an Artist-In-Residence in String Bass in the School of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Recuber earned his Masters degree from the Juilliard School and has studied with the likes of John Hood, Orin OBrien, and Nico Abondolo. In addition to his work with the Colorado Symphony, he has served as Principal Bassist of the Santa Barbara Symphony and as Acting Associate Principal Bass with the Los Angeles Chamber orchestra. He has also performed with the San Francisco Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, and with the Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Pierre Boulez in France.

Georg Philipp Telemann, a German Composer during the late Baroque period, is best known for his sacred compositions for a variety of ensembles. Discouraged at a young age from pursuing music as a career, Telemann remained, throughout his life, primarily self taught. While attending the University of Leipzig as a law student, his musical talents were recognized and supported by the local community, subsequently launching his musical career. It was not long before he became the director of the Leipzig Opera and eventually the musical director for the cities of Frankfurt am Main and later Hamburg. Considered by his contemporaries to be the greatest composer alive, Telemann enjoyed a prolific and respected career and his legacy continues to inspire performers to this day.
