New Arrangements for Viola from Kim Kashkashian

New York, NY — Carl Fischer Music is excited to announce new additions to the viola repertoire from Kim Kashkashian, internationally recognized as a unique voice on the viola and a respected pedagogue.

Ms. Kashkashian has long used these arrangements in her own teaching studio, stating, "In the cause of enlarging and balancing the repertoire available to those who choose the mystery of the viola as their form of expression, we transform treasures intended for one instrument to our own voice. I like to think of this process as the turn of a kaleidoscope, remaining true to original structure and adding new colors. After almost four decades of experimenting with this form of transformation in the concert hall, I am ready to share my musical thoughts with you on paper."

Arranged and edited for the viola by Ms. Kashkashian, each work includes her fingerings and bowings, and ossia parts and alternate fingerings.

Dvorak Rondo Op 94Dvorak Sonatina Op 100Dvorak’s Rondo Op. 94 (B3461 – Score and Part – $11.99), originally for cello and piano, arranged and edited for viola and piano.

Dvorak’s Sonatina Op. 100 (B3460 – Score and Part – $16.99), originally for violin and piano, arranged and edited for viola and piano.

Both Kashkashian arrangements are available now through Carl Fischer Music or your favorite music retailer.

Kim Kashkashian studied the viola with Karen Tuttle and legendary violist Walter Trampler at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. She has worked tirelessly to broaden the range of technique, advocacy, and repertoire for the viola. Since 2000 she has taught viola and chamber music at New England Conservatory. Ms. Kashkashian received a 2012 Grammy Award in the "Best Classical Instrumental Solo" category for Kurtág and Ligeti: Music for Viola, on the ECM Records label. Ms. Kashkashian is a founding member of Music for Food, an initiative by musicians to fight hunger in their home communities.
