New York, NY – Carl Fischer Music releases the first volume of Elisa Koehler’s edition of Franz Joseph Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major (W2680 – Score and Parts– $12.99). Edited by soloist Elisa Koehler, this edition strives to build a bridge between scholarship and performance traditions in order to provide viable options for both the purist and the practitioner. Printed for Bb trumpet with an Eb trumpet part included, the publication includes Haydn's original symbols (turns and figuration) along with suggested realizations to provide musicians with multiple options for forming their own interpretation.
Haydn's Trumpet Concerto was written to be performed at a "Grand Public Concert" that would feature the "organisierte Trompete" (trumpet with keys). The trumpet sounded less brilliant than natural trumpets and blended well with the ensemble. The piece became revolutionary for brass because of its implementation of a full diatonic scale played by the soloist. It must have been a shock to the audience at the time and changed trumpet concerto writing forever.
Concerto in Eb Major (Hob. Vlle: 1) for Trumpet in Bb/Eb and Piano is available now through Carl Fischer Music or your favorite music retailer.
