New York, NY – Carl Fischer Music announces the release of a large format score of Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 2, Op. 30 "Romantic" (SC42L – Large Score – $95.00) critical edition.
Premiered in 1930 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 2 has long been the best-known and most popular of his pieces. In three colorful movements, the symphony has a heart-on-sleeve lyricism that has endeared it to audiences normally fearful of 20th century music. This critical edition was prepared by the Philadelphia Orchestra and is now available in large score format.
Symphony No. 2, Op. 30 "Romantic" is available now through Carl Fischer Music, or your favorite music retailer.
Born in the very heartland of the United States, Wahoo, Nebraska, Howard Hanson’s legacy and influence as a composer remains far reaching, both in compositional style and influence in the educational world. As director of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY for 40 years, Hanson was a champion for original, American music and created a showcase concert series known as the "American Music Festivals." Hanson’s music, avowedly neo-romantic, shows the influence of his Scandinavian background and features a harmonic palette that is often enriched with bitonal and modal writing and a marked fondness for asymmetrical rhythms. Hanson’s influence as a composer, conductor, educator and administrator is a considerable and abiding testament to his greatness and his importance to every area of American musical life.
