Extreme Sports: 11 Virtuosity Etudes (114-41913 - Score - $16.99) – The difficulty level in Gary Schocker's third book of etudes inspired the composer to title this collection Extreme Sports. Each etude targets specific techniques, composed by a flutist with the knowledge and understanding of these particular demands. In addition to being fine concert fare, the etudes will help train and lengthen the breath, develop speed and fluidity, and provide beauty as well as challenge.

Sonata No. 9 for Flute and Piano (114-41912 - Score and Part - $18.99) – Composed in memory of his brother, Gary Schocker�s Sonata No. 9 for Flute and Piano is a serious yet tender work. The four movements are marked Affettuoso, Arioso, Marziale, and Ondeggiando � the Italian tempo markings perhaps indicating a certain degree of formal tradition at the foundation of the sonata.

Coffee Nerves for Four C Flutes (114-41921- Score and Parts - $18.99) – The well-known and loved final movement of Schocker�s Three Dances for Two Flutes, Coffee Nerves is now available in the composer�s own adaptation for flute quartet. This version divides up the original flute parts and accompaniment in fun, surprising ways. Sure to be a hit for quartet gigs and recitals.

Airspace for Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, and Piano (114-41911 - Score and Parts - $28.99) – Airspace is an 11-minute work commissioned by the Monmouth Winds, for whom Schocker�s Sextet for wind quintet and piano was also composed. Evoking four contrasting outdoor spaces (titled 1. Atrium, 2. Parterre, 3. Court Yard, 4. Barnyard), the music is in turn tender and brusque. With its persistent melodies, unexpected moods, and joyous virtuoso finale, Airspace is sure to become an audience favorite and valuable addition to the mixed-winds repertory.

Odd Bedfellows for Flute and Tuba (or Bassoon) (114-41868 - Set of Two Performance Scores - $14.99) – Composed for the unusual combination of Flute and Tuba, Odd Bedfellows may also be performed with Bassoon. Movement 1 is titled At the Hippo Watering Hole, and is full of scenic imagery. The beautiful Movement 2 takes place Among the Pine Barrens and features tuneful Tuba writing in its tenor register from middle C up to G. The playful Movement 3 is a game In and Out the Window, leading to Movement 4 Under the Big Top.

Flutist-composer-pianist Gary Schocker is an accomplished musician of outstanding versatility. As a flutist, Mr. Schocker has performed with many of the world’s great orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra (both while still in his teens), I Solisti Italiani, the Dallas Symphony, and the New Jersey Symphony. He has performed in recital throughout the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Panama, Taiwan, Germany, France, Canada, and Japan. He often appears in concert with guitarist Jason Vieaux. Mr. Schocker teaches many students who travel to his home bases of New York City and Easton, PA, and many others in master classes throughout the world. He is currently on the faculty at NYU.
In addition to being the most published living composer for flute, Gary Schocker has composed sonatas and chamber music for most instruments of the orchestra. He also has written several musicals and children’s musicals, including Far From the Madding Crowd and The Awakening, which can be heard on Original Cast Recordings.
