NEWS FROM CARL FISCHER MUSIC
For Immediate Release July 18, 2017
David Maslankas Traveler
Maslanka Traveler

New York, NY – Carl Fischer Music announces the release of Traveler for Symphonic Wind Ensemble (J764 – Complete Set – $140.00, J764L – Large Full Score – $45.00) composed by David Maslanka.

David Maslankas Traveler for Symphonic Wind Ensemble was commissioned in 2003 by the University of Texas at Arlington Band Alumni Association, the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, in honor of the career contributions of Ray C. Lichtenwalter, retiring Director of Bands at UT Arlington. Maslanka writes, “Ray has been a close friend and champion of my music for many years, and it was a great pleasure for me to write this piece for his final concert. The idea for Traveler came from the feeling of a big life movement as I contemplated my friends retirement.” Carl Fischer Music is excited to make this beautifully contemplative piece available to wind ensembles everywhere, along with an optional large full score.

Traveler is available through Carl Fischer Music, or your favorite music retailer.

David Maslanka, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1943, attended the Oberlin College Conservatory studying clarinet with George Waln and composition with Joseph Wood. He also studied for a year at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and did graduate work in composition at Michigan State University with H. Owen Reed. Maslankas compositions have been performed throughout the United States, in Canada, Japan, Australia, and numerous European countries. He has received three National Endowment for the Arts Composer Awards, and five residence fellowships at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. His works for winds and percussion have become standard in the wind band repertory with a style that is characterized by a very contemporary blend of heart-felt lyricism and rhythmic drive, coupled with an uncanny and remarkable ear for musical sonorities.
