Conceived originally as a work for solo piano, this arrangement of Dvořák’s Suite in A Major for flute and piano is one in a series of Stallman’s “new” works for flute. Dvořák composed the Suite in A Major in 1894, inspired by his happy and fruitful stay in the “New World”—a period that produced some of his greatest works, full of thematic freshness, raw energy and folk influences, inspired by the Wild West’s fascinating Indian and Afro-American music and its awe-inspiring natural beauty.

Quartett für 4 Saxophone
By Christian Biegai

Saxophone Quartet SS[T]AB

Ries & Erler
RE24111  –  Score and Parts  –  $29.99

As a student of saxophone performance, Beigai's studies took him from the University of the Arts in Berlin to the Royal College of Music in London and then to Rutgers University in New Jersey. As a composer, he has worked extensively in TV and film, documentaries and animation. For his former saxophone quartet, clair-obscur, Biegai has composed a three-movement homage: to clair-obscur, to Berlin, and to the composers who have influenced him. The sound imagery would be very much at home in film as well as the recital program. The first movement can be heard at the clair-obscur website.
